Assisted hatching

Procedure of the assisted hatching includes special manipulations which allow to make embryo free from some part of zona pellucida. It is recommended if the density of zona pellucida is rather big. Zona pelucida is a special layer around the oocyte. Its functions are:

  • oocyte fertilization;
  • protective function

On the fifth day after fertilization the embryo comes out of zona pellucida (embryo’s hatching). After the hatching a process of embryo transplantation in uterus started.

The reasons of zona pellucida density changes:

  • Women’s age;
  • Embryo culture in vitro (out of female organism)
  • Embryo cryopreservation

Methods of the assisted hatching:

  • Chemical influence on zona pellucida
  • Mechanical influense on zona pellucida
  • Laser hatching with the help of laser system OCTAX (is used in Clinic of Professor Feskov).

Laser hatching is the method that is the most safety for embryo.

Assisted hatching is necessary if:

  • The age of patient is more then 38 years old;
  • The attempt of IVF program that failed in the past;
  • Low quality of embryos;
  • A high level of follicle stimulated hormone;
  • Embryo transfer after embryo cryopreservation;
  • smoking.
