During the pregnancy, in the female body there appeares a new body - the placenta. It provides all the necessary for growing child. Unfortunately, sometimes there are disorders of the placenta. A common complication during the pregnancy is a dysfunction of the placenta or fetoplacental insufficiency.
Fetoplacental insufficiency is determined by physiological and structural abnormalities in the placenta, because of which the developing fetus receives less oxygen and important nutrients, and it may cause fetal growth retardation. Placental insufficiency occurs in 17-35% of pregnant women, who are treating in the hospital and determined by its causes.
Dysfunction of the placenta is divided into acute and chronic. Acute fetoplacental insufficiency occurs due to acute disorders of utero-placental blood flow. Its symptoms are placental abruption, which is manifested by bleeding of varying intensity, which requires immediate hospitalization of a pregnant woman. Chronic placental insufficiency develops slowly enough. In most cases, it leads to a lack of oxygen to the fetus and delay its development.
Reasons of fetoplacental insufficiency
The main cause of placental insufficiency is a disturbance of blood flow between the fetus and placenta, and also between the placenta and uterus. This is usually caused by poor germination of the villi of the embryo in the uterine artery, which leads to the decrease of the surface of the exchange of blood.
The main risk factors of the placental insufficiency:
• age (younger than 17 years old, older than 30)
• bad habits (alcohol, nicotine, drugs);
• rough labor;
• heavy and harmful working conditions (emotional overload, stress, harmful production);
• hypertension; liver disease;
• clotting disorders.
Fetoplacental insufficiency: Treatment
In each case, the doctor selects the individual selection of drugs for the treatment of placental insufficiency, which are aimed to correcting certain violations. However there are some general guidelines. Treatment of placental insufficiency begins immediately after set diagnosis, and conducted in a hospital. The hospital allows to conduct the necessary tests to determine the causes of placental insufficiency, to monitor the condition of the fetus and the patient. To determine the effectiveness of treatment of placental insufficiency it is held control through clinical, laboratory and instrumental methods of examination. Among them ultrasound and doppler tests are important.
